Understanding Value and Product Decisions

When work becomes visible, decisions begin to shape outcomes.

Certified Scrum Product Owner® (CSPO)

CONTEXT

In many organizations, teams are working and delivering.

Backlogs are defined. Stakeholders are engaged. Priorities are discussed.

Yet, outcomes are not always clear.

Decisions shift frequently. Trade-offs are implicit. What is built does not always connect to intended value.

What appears as a need for better prioritization is often a signal that the system of decisions is not yet fully visible.

See how this shows up →

WHAT BECOMES VISIBLE

  • How decisions shape what gets built—and what does not
  • Where priorities shift without clear trade-offs
  • Why value is assumed but not clearly defined
  • How stakeholder input influences direction unevenly
  • Where decisions create unintended consequences over time

WHAT BEGINS TO SHIFT

  • Prioritization moves from activity → intentional decisions
  • Value moves from assumption → explicit understanding
  • Stakeholder input moves from influence → informed trade-offs
  • Backlog moves from list → expression of decisions
  • Product direction moves from reactive → purposeful

HOW THIS WORK HAPPENS

This work takes place in a cohort-based learning environment where participants engage with how product decisions are made in practice.

Through interactive exploration, participants examine how priorities are set, how trade-offs are handled, and how value is understood.

The experience creates space to connect Scrum concepts to real-world product challenges—making decision-making more visible and actionable.

CERTIFICATION

This course is delivered as part of the Certified Scrum Product Owner® (CSPO) program through Scrum Alliance.

Certification is included, but the focus is on developing an understanding of how decisions shape product outcomes—beyond backlogs, roles, and processes.

I have taken two Scrum courses taught by Mr. Panchal: CSPO and CSM. Both course have been insightful and increased my knowledge in the subject area more than other class I have taken in the past.

The courses are never boring. He has a way of using entertaining metaphors to get the more complicated information across. I highly recommend taking a course from Mr. Panchal.
